Throughout June this year, embroidery artist, Hanny Newton, ran a series of art
workshops at Forge Mill Needle Museum and “Your Ideas” Youth Group. Using traditional embroidery techniques such as couching and goldwork, the group created artworks which “sample” the nature of the Arrow Valley. Inspired by the patterns of needle displays in the museum collection the group collected natural objects from the landscape and sewed them onto canvas to create these beautiful artworks.
Hanny has herself created new artworks inspired by the needle collection and these are exhibited in The Bertie Crewe Gallery at The Palace Theatre, Alcester Street, Redditch. They will be on display 5th November – 30th November.
